Week 17 – Developing Insight And Nurturing Intuition
The Gods We Worship
I am seventeen weeks into a relentless progression toward control of my thoughts. Haanel has gently pushed me to focus on the truth and raise the vibration of my thoughts to a level whereby I recognize the true nature of my desires, my ideal. I am developing insight and its child, intuition. Both are spiritual in nature and thus very powerful.
In the Introduction to Part Seventeen he takes off the kid gloves and delivers a solid right hook. He got my attention when he writes:
“The kind of Deity which a man, consciously or unconsciously, worships, indicates the intellectual status of the worshipper.
The so-called heathen made “graven images” of their Gods, whom they were accustomed to worship, but among the most intelligent, at least, these images were but the visible fulcrums with which they were enabled to mentally concentrate on the qualities which they desired to externalize in their lives.”
In contrast he points out that twentieth century folks (and now us twenty-first century people) purport to worship a God of Love but in reality make graven images of “Wealth”, “Power”, “Fashion”, “Custom” and “Conventionality” and worship them.
These are but symbols and we must learn to distinguish the difference between symbol and reality. He writes “The student who masters the contents of Part Seventeen will not mistake the symbols for the reality; he will be interested in causes, rather than effects.”
We have of course been on an increasingly complex progression over the course of the last 17 weeks along with the Master Key Master Mind Alliance. We have each developed a precise Definite Major Purpose backed by a burning desire for its fulfillment, a definite plan expressed in continuous action, a positive mental attitude and a master mind alliance with one or more people that helps keep us on plan and on purpose.
As a result the image of the person we are becoming is clearer every day. We are developing stronger and stronger confidence in ourselves. As I flash through the service card and the flash cards which remind me I keep my promises and that I really am one of “natures greatest miracles”, my confidence in my abilities to be, do and have begin to excite me.
All the statements in the Blueprint Builder (Napoleon Hill’s Confidence Builder) are becoming more real, less mere words on a page. I am zeroing in on my purpose, getting a clearer mental picture of the person I am, and developing the self confidence and courage to overcome my deepest fear; that I am powerful beyond measure.
Developing Insight And Nuturing Intuition
I have been concentrating on developing insight into the true nature of my desires. In particular are my needs of liberty and legacy right for me and are the things included in my DMP actually means to the end I desire, or ends in themselves. I have been comfortable that I am on the right track, and this lesson adds fuel to that fire.
Two concepts Haanel emphasizes here are of great value to me in developing insight I seek. The first is that developing insight should be effortless.
The second is that thought “can be turned within where it will take hold of the basic principles of things, the heart of things, the spirit of things. When you get to the heart of things it is comparatively easy to understand and command them” (Part Seventeen 31) because “the Spirit of a thing is the thing itself, the vital part of it, the real substance. The form is simply the outward manifestation of the spiritual activity within.” (Part Seventeen 32).
Developing Insight Effortlessly
Developing insight requires that the mind be continuously concentrated in a given direction in a continuous, unbroken flow of thought as a result of patient, persistent application and raising the level of thought vibration to the spiritual level (Part Seventeen 3, 4).
But Haanel points out that concentration requires relaxation, not effort and that it must be directed toward transmutation of thoughts into practical values (Part Seventeen 6, 11).
So in Part Seventeen 33 he says “concentrate as nearly as possible in accordance with the method outlined in this lesson; let there be no conscious effort or activity associated with your purpose. Relax completely, avoid any thought of anxiety as to results. Remember that power comes through repose.”
I know this from previous reading and Seeking The Silence. But I also realize that I have physically concentrated, expended effort in the same way one would in lifting a heavy weight. In my Sits this week I have focused on relaxation as a result. I remember the Law of Relaxation.
Insight leads to development of intuition which sometimes is equated to the sixth sense. It is a manifestation of higher levels of thought vibration and often comes as flashes of brilliance and provides the answers to previously unfathomable questions. I think of Einstein’s vision of the relationship of time and space as he glanced back at the Zurich clock tower from a speeding train.
Haanel indicates intuition can be developed through practice and concentration. But it must be nurtured and insights delivered as a result of this faculty must be given attention and acted upon. Like any other faculty it must be exercised to become strong and useful.
Focus On The Spirit Of The Thing
You really need to focus on the Spirit of your desire or ideal, not on the form. To me this means I need to let my thoughts dwell upon what creating a lucrative affiliate marketing business will allow me to do, not on the income level or the material acquisitions made possible.
That’s the object Haanel references when he writes “Let the thought dwell upon your object, until it is completely identified with it, until you are conscious of nothing else” (Part Seventeen 33). If you wish to eliminate fear, lack or disease, you need to concentrate on courage, abundance or health.
And you must “always concentrate on the ideal as an already existing fact; this is the germ cell, the life principle which goes forth and sets in motion those causes which guide, direct and bring about the necessary relation, which eventually manifest in form.” (Part Seventeen 37).
So understanding that knowledge does not apply itself and that power is in the application, how did I do this week? In short, I made some amazing progress.
My calm, relaxed state of mind helps me access Infinite Intelligence affirms the Law of Relaxation. In my Sits this week I focused on observing this law and really concentrating on the Spirit of my ideal.
I have a conversation with a good friend, I envision abundance as being able to give all manner of material things to my family. I envision wetlands being restored and protected. These are all things I desire, part of my Legacy.
